Compassion International

The Background

Compassion International is a large Global non-profit that exists to “release children from poverty in Jesus name”. One of their main ways of doing this is by sponsoring children, often at large events. We worked with them over the course of several months to deliver video materials that would not only secure the partnership, but also produce a documentary series to be played at their partner’s event in order to drive sponsorship numbers up.

The Problem

This project was an interesting one as we had to create content for a wide variety of audiences. We hopped on a plane to Indonesia in hopes of finding a story to share that would move both young people who generally have very little financial means in order to give, while also secure the partnership in the mind of a prominent Christian University’s Leadership Team. We spent several days shooting documentary style footage, and hopping between different islands experiencing the beautiful culture Indonesia offers and the incredible work Compassion does with the youth there.

The Solution

We were invited into many homes and worked hard to produce high quality interviews often without any advance notice. Because of the large amounts of pre-production we had done in order to prepare for this, we had all of the necessary equipment on hand and ready to go to ensure that no matter what each day threw at us, we were equipped and ready to handle it. Due to this prep work and our great attention to detail each night as we prepared for the next day, we were able to have a short video ready to present to the university’s leadership team before we even landed back stateside. It went over extremely well with them, and so we moved forward with the next portion of the project – a documentary series.

This was a much more time intensive section of the project, but we used our story framework to dissect each interview and order them in a way that would enable us to quickly tell a cohesive and moving story. After sifting through the hours upon hours of interviews we had captured, we were able to deliver four different short videos to be played during Compassion’s segment of the conference, each building on the next in order to move college age students to give $38 a month to sponsor a child by the end of the conference. Overall we were able to see a total of 172 college age students be moved to sponsor children – well above expectation.
